Take What You NEED

Lately, I’ve been asking myself,

 “What do I need?

I’m not just talking about help with the dishes,
  more family time,
or playing with my creative spirit.

I’m talking about really asking for what I need.

 patience
 JOY
trust

 courage
 magic
  support
forgiveness
acceptance
gratitude

  I recently came across
this sign on Facebook
 and just loved it.

I thought it would be really fun
 to make my own version.

So, I got out my paints, bushes, and fabric
and asked myself,
“What do I need?”

What do we all need more of?

Since this is the start of the season of giving,
I decided to hang this sign
in the front entrance of our home,
as a reminder
for all those who came and go,
to take what we need.

What do you need, today?

  5. This is beautiful, Eydie. This is just what I needed today, to be asked what I need....

I need to feel connected, to feel like I'm not alone. To be told that I am appreciated and loved just as I am. I need to feel like I matter.

    Thank you for asking.

    With love,

    Julia

  8. Hi, Eydie. My name is Katie North. I am the original creator of the 'Take What You Need' sign you came across on Facebook. I'm a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, and I put six copies of that sign up outside around my campus on notice boards. Someone captured that photograph, and the image has essentially gone viral across the internet. I made the sign in response to learning that an acquaintance in high school had attempted suicide. I have definitely struggled with feelings of loneliness, depression, sadness, and desires to just be finished with it all, but I strive every day to try to let people know their worth, and to make people feel cared for and loved. I don't want other people to feel the pain that I've felt. I wanted my friend to remember through his struggles that he is surrounded by the things he felt like he was missing, that he needed. He just needed to reach out and take them. As I grieved for his pain and rejoiced that he lived through his attempt to end his life, I chose to respond in this way. I need to remind people that these things are true; that you need only to reach out and take them to make them yours.

Thank you for recreating my sign in a beautiful way. The color and life you brought to the message makes it all kinds of perfect. Thank you for reminding me that our needs transcend ourselves, simultaneously connecting us to others. Thank you for your beauty.

    Be well.

  9. Dear Katie,

What a beautiful gift you gave me this morning. To read your words and connect with you was beyond amazing. The power and message behind your sign has touched the lives of so many people as it continues to float around the internet. I hope you feel a huge sense of pride for the beauty you have created.

There is a group of women who called the “the Brave GIrls”. They spread messages of love, courage, and worthiness through their blog, art and ecourses. I have taken several of their ecourses and they have all been beyond my expectations. I get their daily emails of inspiration. They are doing a series of “things we think are amazing” on their site, and just recently, I saw a “Take what you need” sign recreated by the amazing Kelly Rae Roberts. After I went to Kelly’s site, I saw the she also recreated your sign and made copies which she posted around her neighborhood. By the way, Kelly is an awesome person and artist.

    Katie,

You have created a beautiful gift of sharing and acknowledging what we need ... what we all need ... whether it is LOVE, patience, guidance, forgiveness, understanding, time, hope, faith, prosperity, healing ... the list is infinite. Thank you so much, my friend, for inspiring me to create the sign that hangs in the entrance of my home. It brings me and others such joy. I will think of you each and every time I look at the sign.

Thank you so much for connecting with me. I hope to stay in contact with you during your journey.

May your New Year be filled with “all that you need”

    XOXO

  12. Dear Eydie,

I am Robert Lipp from Germany and I am truly inspired by your works of art. I am running a Facebook group called "Share and Care Bamberg" (Bamberg being the name of my town). The purpose of the group is to share things you don't need anymore with others who might still have use for them. For example, if you're moving and you find that you have a lot of stuff in your basement that you have no use for but you don't want to just toss it in the bin either, you post it in the group and other members can come pick it up. This goes for all kinds of goods like furniture, electronics, food, etc..
The only restriction is, that you have to offer it out of pure love and free of charge.
You can also ask the community for things you might need, get help when you're moving, find people to take care of your dog when you're away for the weekend or find likeminded people to share your hobbies. Anything is possible and the same principle applies: No money involved!

I found your image on pinterest and we've been using it as our group foto because it reflects exactly what we stand for. Up until now, we haven't given much thought to who created it though. It's time for that to change and to kindly as for your permission to continue using it.

I would also like to thank you (semi-)personally and show you all the wonderful things that have happened since we started the group. Be sure to contact me at shareandcare2.0@gmail.com

    Love
    Robert
